De Blasio Promises Health Care for All New Yorkers

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Tuesday health care coverage for all New Yorkers

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday that the city would be providing all residents with health care.

The program, called NYC Care, will cover pediatrics, obstetrician-gynecologist or OB/GYN, geriatric, mental health and other services. An estimated 600,000 people in the city are not now covered by any healthcare plan.

"You might say 'is this something that ideally should be handled in Washington D.C. or in Albany?' Yes, it should", De Blasio said.

Fees for the NYC Care services will be based on sliding scale charges, meaning people will pay for health care services based on their income.

"We recognized that obviously health care is not just in theory a right", De Blasio told media ahead of his announcement. "By putting workers first, New York City's economy has never been stronger".

However, the protectors of illegal immigrants are perfectly happy to risk the lives of families of New York City citizens and legal immigrants by handcuffing the ability of the police to help federal law enforcement agents remove illegal aliens with existing criminal records from our city and country. "If John or Jane Doe is sick, now they know exactly where to go".

"While numerous details of this plan still need to be expanded upon, and much relies on the implementation strategy of that plan, I am excited that both physical and mental health are taken into consideration", said Williams.

The mayor unveiled the program at a news conference at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx after first announcing in on MSNBC's "Morning Joe".

The programs will cost the city an estimated $100 million a year to operate.

"This is the city paying for direct comprehensive care (not just ERs) for people who can't afford it, or can't get comprehensive Medicaid - including 300,000 undocumented New Yorkers", spokesman Eric Phillips tweeted.

In other words, taxes paid by New York City residents such as myself can not be used to help stem the tide of illegal immigration. "You won't end up in a hospital bed if you actually get the care you need when the disease starts".

Mitchell Katz, MD, president and CEO of NYC Health and Hospitals, the city's public healthcare network, noted that prescription drugs are one thing most people are anxious about being able to afford, but "under this program, pharmaceutical costs are covered".

"We are appalled by New York City Mayor de Blasio's explicit efforts to derail essential reforms to New York's bail and parole release systems and to reverse progress made toward the decarceration of New York's jails and prisons", the coalition said in a statement released Monday. "The city has 4.5 million workers, public and private, this will affect half a million people".

"When everyone is able to get access to services when they need them, and they have preventative services and they can see a primary care doctor", she said, "the whole health-care system works better".

NYC Care will be launched in the summer.
