Mysterious radio signals from outer space detected

Scientists discover mysterious radio signals from distant galaxy. What are they?

It is again a mystery for the scientists and a potential chance so that they could understanding what is the main cause behind these bursts from a galaxy that is no less than 1.5 billion light years away from where we are today.

A fantastically bright repeating radio signal from billions of light-years away has been discovered, only the second of its kind ever found. Scientists now believe these signals are much more common than previously thought.

The radio waves were detected by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME), the world's most powerful radio telescope, spread across an area as big as a football pitch. Seven of those were measured at the lowest frequency yet detected, suggesting that there could be even more of them at frequencies too low to measure.

"Until now, there was only one known repeating FRB".

The most important thing to understand about FRBs is that they're nearly always a singular event.

A repeating fast radio burst (FRB) has been detected by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME), a new radio telescope.

A SETI project snatched a few just this fall, but another effort using a brand new radio telescope called CHIME that essentially points at the whole sky and chooses where to "look" using software.

Ever since FRBs were first detected, scientists have been piecing together the observed characteristics of signals to come up with models that might explain the sources of the mysterious bursts.

Emery added: "We are working with the players who are with us now". "We both spoke about the situation with respect from him and from us".

Experts have debated whether black holes or super-dense neutron stars are responsible, but others have suggested more outlandish theories.

Shriharsh Tendulkar, an astronomer from the McGill Space Institute and a co-author of the new study, said radio frequencies help scientists understand possible emission mechanisms, or processes, of FRBs, and also the effects that the radio waves encounter as they travel through space.

Detection of the first fast radio bursts There is an array of radio signals and microwaves cast out by distant stars, black holes, and other celestial bodies, all bombarding our planet at any given time.

The CHIME telescope in British Columbia will search our universe for phenomena such as fast radio bursts, pulsars and more.

"Until now, there was only one known repeating FRB", said a Chime astrophysicist, Dr Ingrid Stairs, from the University of British Columbia. "We would like to accurately localise them and understand which galaxies they are coming from. But it has to be in some special place to give us all the scattering that we see".

National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) radio dishes of the Very Large Array near Socorro, New Mexico, is where the 2012 FRB was documented. "We don't know the precise distance to the second one yet".

Added Landecker: "We haven't solved the problem, but it's several more pieces in the puzzle".
