Saudi Arabia announces rise in oil, gas reserves

The Saudi Arabia-based oil and gas giants, Saudi Aramco, is planning to delve into the debt market during the second quarter in order to fund the purchase of petrochemical company, Sabic, in what is set to be its first ever worldwide bond, according to Bloomberg.

The plans for the bond, first reported by Bloomberg a year ago, come as the Saudi government reactivates its plan to sell shares in the company.

Gas reserves totalled 325.1 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), an increase of 17.2 Tcf over the previous estimate.

Saudi state oil giant Saudi Aramco plans to issue its first global bonds in the second quarter of 2019, the country's energy minister Khalid Al-Falih said Wednesday, Kallanish Energy reports.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Minister Khalid al-Falih said that the latest audit "confirms our belief that Aramco is the most valuable company in the world".

In addition, "U.S gulf coast gasoline inventory levels hit 89.4 million barrels, a new high, while distillate products rose at the highest level in a month rising by 8.9 million barrels", he added. It is the third biggest producer after the United States and Russian Federation with around 10.6 million barrels per day.

Aramco's acquisition of a majority stake in Sabic would be key to the oil giant's strategy to expand in the downstream segment and curb emissions, Aramco's chief executive Amin Nasser told the Financial Times in September. In DeGolyer's view, these contained 213.1 billion barrels of proved oil reserves, compared to 210.9 billion as estimated internally by Aramco.

Saudi Arabia pumped oil at record levels in 2018, including output of 11 million barrels a day in November.

Al-Falih reiterated Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's comments past year that Riyadh is aiming for Aramco's initial public offering (IPO) in 2021. Falih said on Wednesday the kingdom would still go ahead, and list the company by 2021.
