Radio signals coming from deep space detected in Canada

FRB Origin

The radio burst, which repeated its signal six times, was detected among 13 other so-called Fast Radio Bursts, or FRBs, in July and August of past year.

There have been more than 60 FRBs to date, with the only other repeating fast radio burst discovered in 2015 using the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico. Scientists have recorded the second repeating fast radio burst to be discovered, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature.

The telescope has been in use for only a year, detecting 13 of the radio bursts nearly immediately, including the repeater.

While we don't know a whole lot about FRBs or what causes them, scientists believe they may be coming from a powerful astrophysical phenomena billions of light years away, reports CTV News Canada.

The latest signal to have this attribute was picked up for the first time by a Canadian radio telescope as it was starting operations in mid-2018. The bursts flash for just a millisecond but they are so much energetic and their energy level is same like which the sun takes a year to produce.

Unlike typical FRBs that come and go, the discovery of a repeating FRB is vital to increasing our understanding of them, as we are able to train our radio telescopes towards them to study them further. In some of the 13 cases, the signal at the lower end of the band was so bright that it seems likely other FRBs will be detected at frequencies even lower than CHIME's minimum of 400 megahertz.

Netanyahu confirms weekend strike on 'Iranian weapons' in Syria
Netanyahu, visiting the northern border later on Sunday, put the number at "between 1,000 and 2,000" Hezbollah fighters. But with that civil war winding down, Israeli security officials fear Hezbollah is refocusing its attention on Israel.

Two FRB repeat themselves. FRB's were first detected accidentally in 2007, when a burst signal was spotted in radio astronomy data collected in 2001.

Astronomers have been finding FRB's since 2002, though dozens of discoveries have shed little light on what these signals are or where they originate. Although the source of the object is still unknown, Loeb was one of the scientists suggesting that it was probably an alien probe falling off from the galaxy after completing its mission. "It could be colliding black holes but you don't expect black holes to collide and then an hour later collide again, and then after that to collide again, right?"

Cherry Ng, an astronomer at the University of Toronto said: "That could mean in some sort of dense clump like a supernova remnant".

Of the 13 new blasts that were picked up, at least seven of them were recorded at 400 MHz - the lowest frequency of any yet discovered. Some scientists had anxious that the range of frequencies it can pick up would be too low for it to receive the FRBs - but it found far more than expected, and scientists expect it to identify even more.

The "scattering" phenomenon was detected in the radio bursts, which can help answer questions about the atmosphere surrounding the origin.
